Blog assignment#4

1. Tennesse Williams slowly reveals Stanley's true character. In a Streetcar Named Desire, Stanley is Stella's husband. At first I thought he was a cool, fun guy because he enjoys bowling and playing poker. I also thought he was funny, a jokester from the very beginning of the play when he he hollered Stella's name and through the meat for her to catch. Also when Stanley says to Blanche( Stella's sister) "Liquor goes fast in hot weather. Have a shot?" Blanche says "No - I rarely touch it." Stanley smiling at Blanche " Some people rarely touch it, but it touches them often." Blanche "Ha ha." (18) A few jokes like these and I could tell how Stella fell in love with such charismatic charm. But then his impression changes. Tenesse Williams reveals Stanley Kowalski is an agressive drunk. He doesn't like being told what to do whenever Stella suggests something. He likes to take control like when he tell demands Blanche to turn off the radio which then leads to him throwing it out the window. In this incident when Stanley's friend where over playing poker that one night when he hits his wife. Stella and Stanley got into an arguement when he through the radio. Stella "You lay your hands on me and I'll....." (40) Its when he is drunk he doesnt know how to act.

2. Blanche is a flirt. Blanche is Stella's older sister. She is a flirt. She even flirts with her sister's husband Stanley right from the start in their conversations and when she tells Stanley to button up her dress. She admits to her act "Yes, I was flirting with your husband!" (30) Shortly after, she gets introduce to Stanley's friends. She is flirting even then but one guy in particular I think caught her eye. That guy is Mitch. They share a long talk, sharing deep secrets, connections to inscriptions, and sonnets etc. Although I think Blanche secretly wants Stanley, you know the forbidden fruit, how people want what they cant have, I also think there is some interest with Mitch too.
